See How a Dash of Black will add Drama to Your Home

Shhhh it’s a secret.

This week we’re sharing our favourite design trick. This is probably the least known design trick of them all, but this one really works and it’s super doable. Curious yet? Here it is.

Every room should  incorporate a dash of black.

See how easy it is. It doesn’t matter if your style is modern, contemporary, farmhouse or minimalist, every room needs some black. And no…the tv doesn’t count.

Why black?

Well there’s no other colour that will add as much depth or contrast to a room. Black will join it all together and add focus. The colour black is viewed as powerful, elegant and authoritative, making it a perfect grounding colour.

Black can also be really sexy.

When whole rooms are done in black – especially if it’s glossy – there’s an edginess that’s super sexy and sophisticated. It’s a bold move to do a lot of black, but the end result is fantastic.

These rooms may be a little over the top, but a few black accents are easy to incorporate.

Black windows are a great way to add punch to a room. If your windows need painting, consider doing them black. We also like to paint interior doors black for their dramatic effect.

Jet black can be harsh, so look for a black that’s softer. Choosing a black can be like choosing white…it sounds easy, but there’s hundreds to choose from.

One of our go to blacks is Benjamin Moore Onyx 2133-10. It’s dark enough to command attention, and warm enough to mix with browns.

Even clear colours come alive with the addition of some black. I love how these bright colours play off the black  accents. Drapery rods, chair frames, side tables and the black of the fireplace provides just enough black to make the other colours sing.

Black is the colour that will add drama to your space. So now you know the secret.

It’s all about black.
