You won’t believe this huge transformation from a can of paint. It’ll blow you away it’s so good. To think that a can of paint can do all this…okay maybe not just a can…several cans. Still, it’s unbelievable.
Our client wanted a lighter brighter kitchen. She didn’t want to change cabinets or counter or go the whole gut-the-kitchen route. We suggested paint. It’s the most powerful decorating tool around.
The budget wasn’t huge, but full disclosure – the backsplash and light fixture were changed too. It’s not that the size or the tile or pattern of the backsplash were so bad. It was more the colour. It was muddy and blah and we wanted fresh. We choose a simple white subway tile to set off the rich darkness of the granite countertop.
Here is part one…the backsplash and light fixture…already the space is looking more alive.
Now for the big change…it’s time to paint. Whites are probably the hardest to pick. I wrote a post on whites (here), explaining how to pick the right shade. For this kitchen, Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 was chosen. It has a slightly warm yellow undertone and would blend perfectly with the floors and counter.
I took these photos with my iPhone 6 camera…I know, I know, it’s a great camera but it’s just me snapping away without proper flash/lens/tripod. I was so excited to get these on my blog so you could see the huge change.
Of course styling makes a big difference too. Pictures were hung, a few useful items were put on the counters and now it looks completely new and fresh and current. BTW this homeowner is amazing. She has two young boys, one big boy (hubby) and a new puppy AND THIS IS THE WAY SHE KEEPS HER HOME EVERYDAY. Impressive.
The kitchen really is the heart of the home. And since so many kitchens are connected to the family room, that’s where all the living occurs. If you want to update your space, think about paint. Here’s a post we featured on a $500 Kitchen Renovation. It all starts with paint.
